Move of the Month: Power Clean!

This months move is the Power Clean! Our good friends at Exrx.net break down the power clean like this:

Preparation

Stand over barbell with balls of feet positioned under bar pointing foward, hip width's apart or slightly wider. Squat down and grip bar with over hand grip slightly wider than shoulder width (thumbs length from ends of knerlings on Olympic bar). Position shoulders over bar with back arched tightly. Arms are straight with elbows pointed along bar.

Execution

Pull bar up off floor by extending hips and knees. As bar reaches knees vigorously raise shoulders while keeping barbell close to thighs. When barbell passes mid-thigh, allow it to contact thighs. Jump upward extending body. Shrug shoulders and pull barbell upward with arms allowing elbows to flex out to sides, keeping bar close to body. Aggressively pull body under bar, rotating elbows around bar. Catch bar on shoulders before knees bend lower than 90°. Stand up immediately so thighs ride no lower than parallel to floor.

Return

Bend knees slightly and lower barbell to mid-thigh position. Slowly lower bar with taut lower back and trunk close to vertical. The advanced athlete may unload (drop) bar from completed position (as shown). This technique may be practiced to reduce stress or fatigue involved in lowering bar as prescribed. Use rubber weightlifting plates on weightlifting platform if this unloading method is used (unless floor demolition is desired).

This pancake mix is very good. It makes pancakes that are more heavy so I watered it down a bit more to make the pancakes thinner and they are still a bit heavy but very tasty. I am planning on using this to do some baking as well. Really good flavor.

Move of the Month: Box Jumps

Thanks to the guys at Rogue Fitness this month our move of the month is the box jump!

Box jumps are a great exercise for your legs, and can be performed on just about any variable flat surface. They hit your posterior chain – calves, quads, glutes, and hamstrings – pretty hard.

Box jumps can be used for cardio workouts, neural activation training (NAT), high intensity resistance training (HIRT), and high intensity interval training (HIIT) circuits. They are often used in CrossFit WODs (Workout of the Day), and are a staple exercise in plyometric training. Plyometrics have a wide range of athletic and real sporting applications; they are used, for example, to increase jumping ability, leg strength, hip drive, and explosiveness.

Box jumps are a simple movement. They require you only to jump from one flat surface up onto another flat surface, then either step or jump back down, depending on the purpose of the exercise.

  NMDAD-Aspartic Acid is incredibly popular as a testosterone booster — and for good reason, as studies have shown that a dose of 3000mg/day can dramatically increase testosterone levels in men. N-methyl D-Aspartate is simply a more powerful form of DAA: It appears to be 100 times more potent on an equimolar basis, and has a fundamentally-identical mechanism of action. Like DAA, it induces LH release and increases mRNA expression of the steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) — a protein which shuttles cholesterol into the mitochondria of steroidogenic cells, and which represents the first rate-limiting step in steroid biosynthesis.
  There’s no need to reference DAA studies: NMDA itself has been shown to dramatically increase testosterone in animal models.
  Menaquinone-4
  MK-4 is the most active form of vitamin K, and is found in high concentrations in the testes. Studies in animals have shown that Vitamin K/MK4 deficiency leads to reduced expression of steroidogenic genes and low testosterone levels; another study has shown that MK-4 supplementation can increase testosterone levels via the induction of protein kinase A, CREB, and, most importantly, P450scc.
  • PKA is a multi-functional enzyme which activates steroidogenic transcription factors such as steroidogenic factor 1, GATA-4, and the aforementioned StAR. Like StAR, PKA also directly facilitates cholesterol transport into the mitochondria of leydig cells. PKA is also a positive regulator of the P450scc enzyme.
  • CREB is a upstream regulator of the aforementioned StAR, and increases in CREB expression have been shown to increase StAR promoter activity, StAR mRNA, and StAR protein levels in leydig cells.
  • P450scc is the ‘side-chain-cleavage’ enzyme which converts cholesterol to pregnenolone — and after StAR shuttles cholesterol into the mitochondria of steroidogenic cells, this becomes the rate-limiting step in testosterone biosynthesis. If StAR is sufficiently activated, P450scc is the bottleneck. Paragon amplifies P450scc expression with a hefty dose of MK-4 and destroys this bottleneck, allowing for much greater testosterone production.
  Vitamin D3
  Vitamin D represents another way to boost testosterone levels. Its mechanism of action has not been entirely elucidated, but seems to involve 17b-HSD induction. While not a rate-limiting step, increases in 17b-HSD enzyme activity should increase the rate of conversion of DHEA to androstenediol, and therefore speed-up testosterone biosynthesis.
  Regardless of mechanism, it’s very clear that the stuff works: Vitamin D3 has been shown to increase testosterone levels in healthy adult males, and two recent studies have shown a correlation between serum Vitamin D levels and testosterone levels. Vitamin D may also improve muscle function and athletic performance. Given its many benefits, and its ability to potentially increase testosterone via a seemingly-unique mechanism, its role in Paragon is well warranted.
  ForskolinForskolin is a potent cAMP-activator which should increase testosterone biosynthesis via a now-familiar mechanism: cAMP activation leads to Protein Kinase A phosphorylation and CREB induction, PKA and CREB both potentiate StAR, which then increases transport of cholesterol into the mitochondria. LH itself works in a nearly identical manner. At the dose contained in Paragon It has been shown to increase testosterone levels in healthy adult men. It also has beneficial effects where body composition is concerned — due to increases in testosterone and induction of hormone sensitive lipase (HSL), an enzyme which is usually the rate-limiting step in lipolysis.
  Euonymus Alatus and Prunella Vulgaris extractsWidely-used as Chinese herbal medicines, Euonymus Alatus and Prunella Vulgaris deliver a one-two punch to estrogen.
  Euonymous Alatus extract is a potent aromatase inhibitor with an IC50 of 11μm in Human placental aromatase. Animal studies have shown striking results: Treatment with EA extracts can lead to total estrogen deprivation in normal female rats. What’s more, it displays selectivity for certain tissue types, and it may be much more selective and active towards aromatase enzymes expressed in breast tissue. This latter property may make it especially useful to people who are prone to gyno. It may be the most potent herbal aromatase inhibitor on the market today.
  In contrast to Euonymus Alatus, Prunella Vulgaris interferes with estrogen receptor signalling indirectly. An unidentified compound within the extract binds to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) as a full agonist, and this ligand-receptor complex seems to degrade the estrogen receptor protein via ubiquitin-mediated mechanisms. It seems to also compete with ER-mediated gene transcription via unknown mechanisms.
  One thing is certain: Estrogen is of no concern to anybody on Paragon.
  Urtica Dioica extractIt should be a shame to boost testosterone, only to have it deactivated by SHBG. Urtica Dioica (Stinging Nettle) root extract contains (-)-3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran and numerous other inhibitors of SHBG. We use a full-spectrum aqueous extract, which will help ensure that more of the testosterone you produce is put to good use.

We've found a great article that gives you the reasons why it’s become the number one exercise most people should be doing:

Reason #1 – It’s Better for Your Back

Firstly, and perhaps most significantly, Dr. Stuart McGill found kettlebell swings show a reversed polarity of posterior shear at L4 and L5 when compared to traditional posterior chain exercises.¹ This is important because for those with lower back issues traditional posterior chain exercises such as deadlifts, good mornings, etc. may exacerbate the condition, while swings may not. For those looking to strengthen the lower back and unable to use these traditional exercises the swing may be just the thing they’re looking for.

Reason #2 – Lower Loads are Safer

Because of the dynamic nature of the swing the opportunity to overload or injure the body is quite low. A well-performed swing is ballistic in nature. A swing should be punched forward by the hips, not pushed slowly into place. For those wondering what I’m speaking about picture the difference between a bullet and a missile. In the RKC we speak of ballistics and grinds. A ballistic is a bullet – one moment of acceleration then it is coasting after being fired. A grind is like a missile – constantly being pushed along, no matter how fast or slow it moves.

The swing is as ballistic as a standing jump. And because of that, and the lower loads that are necessitated by it, the lower back simply can’t be overloaded the way it could be via deadlifts or power cleans.

Love the taste of this stuff. I have taken Xtend, Modern BCAA, Amino1 and I think this tastes the best hands down. Plus I feel like I recovered much quicker while on it. I haven't tried the BLUE RAZ, but loved the watermelon flavor.

This is a great post-workout product. I've tried many over the past 5 years, never quite satisfied with the taste, but most of all- the results. The watermelon tastes great mixed with water.

Love the taste of this product and it digests very easy for me. My only complaint was that it has Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil included in the ingredients. Of course my new favorite tasting protein has to have hydrogenated oil. I didn't notice this before I bought it. Mixes very well. If your cool with having hydrogenated oil in your diet then go for it. I'll most likely be changing products after I finish this.

DFine gave me energy. No jitters. Drink it before a workout, cutting grass or just walking.I think it's too expensive tho. I might buy it again. I lost 10 pounds in 1 month but I did follow a low carb diet also. Grape flavor is good. Try it.

Although D-Fine 8 comes in many more flavors than most pre-workout drinks, only a few of them ever sounded appealing. This one is actually quite good, and like all flavors, doesn't give me the twitchiness or the flush that I get from other pre-workout drinks.

The Green Tea Leaf Extract seems to be the main (and perhaps only) source of caffeine in the ingredient list. Gurana Seed Extract is an energy booster, but I do not believe it is caffeine. I have not seen any weight loss from it. I have take a first round of fat/muscle percentage measurements, but I have not yet done a second round so perhaps I am making some progress in that area.

Move of the Month, the Air Squat

Club One Crossfit and 4X Nutrition Center have teamed up to to bring you our " Move of the Month".

This month we dissect the 'Air Squat'. The air squat is a compound, full body exercise that trains primarily the muscles of the hips, thighs, butt, hamstrings, and quads. The squat also strengthens ligaments, bones, and tendons throughout the lower body. Squats are a vital exercise for increasing the strength and size of your butt and legs. The benefits to your core strength is an added benefit of the squat.

Great product, you will find this will increase your over all strength, as I myself have added 25lbs to my bench press and 60lbs to my squats,increase water intake while on cycle, over all I experienced a big increase in strength and would definitely buy again.

Let me start by saying great job FinaFlex!!! I tried 1-Andro and had great results but Finaflex has out done themselves with 1-ALPHA. I bought 3 Bottles and dosed it at 4 caps per day...Right around day 10 maybe day 12 is when 1-ALPHA started to shine through. My strength went through the roof and I was growing like a weed. I am SUPER impressed with this product and will be using this again and again. Grabbed some Pure Test 2 bottles and some Revolution PCT Black and My PCT was good to go. Awesome stuff!!!!!

I bought 3 bottles of 1-Alpha and I am on week 3 of a 45 day cycle. Dosed at 4 a day. I have got to say that Finaflex hit this one out of the park. Strength is thru the roof not to mention that I have gained 6 lbs so far and have gained no body fat. I feel great in the gym not like a "drug" great feeling just more power and strength which leads to better workouts. You have got to pick this up and give it a try. Just like 1-Andro but WAY better and MORE potent for sure. Will run this again for sure! looking forward to my remaining time on 1-Alpha! GOOD S#!T FinaFlex!!!!
